About the Artist

Jeff Kahn began working in metal in 1969. After several positions with professional jewelers, including working on Philadelphia’s Jewelers Row, he opened his own shop in 1973. His work was featured in a show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and sold out on opening night, which led to many years of commission work. However, Jeff’s original interest had been in sculpture, so he began experimenting with different media and working in machine shops and furniture studios to learn the tools and processes.

In 1974 Jeff began building his home and studio in North Wales, Pa. A work of art in itself, the studio and gallery is open to visitors.

From 1974 to 1979, Jeff attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, while continuing with furniture design, jewelry making, art restoration and experimental sculpture. The latter included computer-operated sculptures with up to 5000 light emitting diodes sequenced to create the appearance of motion.

Jeff’s latest collection is titled “Unseen Forces.” A series of mobiles, the pieces combine the skills he has acquired as a jeweler, machinist, woodworker and artist. The mobiles explore a delicate balance between unyielding steel, exotic woods, tiny jeweled bearing surfaces and imperceptible currents of air to produce absorbing displays of form and movement.
